Regulation (EU) 2024/1781 — ESPR
Regulation (EU) 2024/1781 requires Digital Product Passports for textiles and footwear. KadmilOS provides ESPR-aligned schema tooling via API — legal compliance remains the brand's responsibility.
Regulation (EU) 2024/1781 — the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation — replaces the 2009 Ecodesign Directive. It sets the legal architecture: product groups are brought into scope by delegated acts adopted by the European Commission. The regulation itself is in force since July 2024.
The Commission adopts product-specific delegated acts that define which data fields a DPP must contain for each product group. Batteries were the first (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542). Textiles and footwear are next in the pipeline — textile delegated acts are targeted for Q4 2027 (not earlier in 2025–mid-2027).
Apparel, footwear, and home textiles are explicitly listed in ESPR Annex I. The aim is to extend garment lifetime, enable circularity, and give consumers and recyclers machine-readable data about every product placed on the EU market.

Published in the Official Journal of the EU. Framework regulation in effect; product-group mandates via delegated acts.
European Commission drafts delegated acts for textiles
Apparel and footwear DPP schema (v2) under consultation. Batteries delegated act already live as reference model.
Textiles/footwear delegated acts expected (target)
Target window for Commission adoption of textile/footwear DPP delegated acts. DA adoption is not the same as full mandatory application — enforcement for fashion brands is expected later (often cited ~2029–2030).
Textiles/footwear likely mandatory DPP
Full enforcement expected across EU market participants. Brands without DPP infrastructure face market access risk.

Each DPP requirement maps to a KadmilOS API endpoint. One key, multiple modules.
| DPP requirement | KadmilOS endpoint | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Core DPP passport + QR | POST /api/v1/dpp | Creates passport record, returns unique identifier and QR payload |
| CO₂ footprint | POST /api/v1/carbon | Stores client-provided co2_kg per SKU; generates carbon certificate |
| Eco score | POST /api/v1/eco | Category-level environmental impact scoring; returns composite eco_score |
| Supply chain origin | POST /api/v1/dpp (supply_chain field) | Nested supplier array within DPP payload |
| Materials + recycled content | POST /api/v1/dpp (materials field) | Fibre array with percentage and recycled_pct per component |
| Repairability | POST /api/v1/dpp (repairability field) | Score 1–10 + disassembly_steps array |
What KadmilOS provides today — and where the gaps are.
KadmilOS DPP API
Brands that start now arrive at enforcement with 12+ months of baseline SKU data. Late starters have none.
QWhen does ESPR apply to my brand?
Regulation (EU) 2024/1781 is in force. Textile/footwear delegated acts are targeted for Q4 2027; full mandatory application is expected later (often cited ~2029–2030). Brands that wait until enforcement have zero historical SKU data when regulators and buyers first ask.
QIs a DPP required now?
Not mandated today for fashion. The regulation framework is live; delegated acts for textiles/footwear are still in consultation. However, major EU retailers are beginning to insert DPP-readiness requirements into supplier qualification criteria — commercial pressure precedes legal enforcement.
QDoes KadmilOS generate the DPP QR code?
Yes. POST /api/v1/dpp returns a unique passport ID and a QR payload (URL + base64 image). You embed or print it. The QR resolves to the public passport record.
QWhat data do I need to provide?
Minimum: product name, SKU, materials array (fibre type + percentage), and country of manufacture. Optional: supplier chain, repairability score, recycled content %, co2_kg. The more fields you populate now, the closer you are to full ESPR readiness when delegated acts finalise.
